What is a fine art children’s portrait?

1

Fine art portraits are simple, timeless photographs that focus completely on your child — their expression, their personality, and that little moment in time you never want to forget.

The style is beautifully minimal, with soft lighting and a classic background so nothing distracts from your child. The aim is to create a portrait that feels natural and elegant, rather than something overly posed or trendy.

After your session, each image is carefully refined by hand to create the soft, polished look that fine art portrait photography is known for. It’s a slower, more thoughtful process that helps turn a lovely photograph into a piece of artwork families are proud to display in their homes.

Can siblings be photographed together?

2

Yes, absolutely. These portrait sessions are perfect for siblings as well as individual portraits. While the style is simple and focused, siblings together often create some of the most meaningful images.

During your session we can photograph each child individually and also capture a few portraits of them together, creating a lovely set of images for your family.

What should my child wear for their portrait session?

3

Simple clothing works best for fine art portraits. Neutral colours such as cream, beige, grey, soft blues or muted tones photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your child’s face and expression.

It’s best to avoid large logos, bright patterns or characters, as these can distract from the portrait. If you’re unsure, I’m always happy to give a little guidance before your session.

My child is shy — will that be a problem?

Why choose me for your child’s portraits?

Not at all. In fact, many children are a little shy at first, and that’s completely normal.

With over 23 years of photographing children, I take a very relaxed approach and give them time to settle in. The sessions are short and gentle, and I guide them naturally so they don’t feel pressured. Often the quiet, thoughtful moments create the most beautiful portraits.

I’m based in Whitefield, but I come to you and photograph children and families across Bury, Manchester and the surrounding areas of Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Cheshire

Some sessions take place during special studio portrait days, while others can be photographed in your home using my portable studio setup. Full details are always provided when booking.

If it’s an at home portrait photography session, this last for up to an hour. If it is a one off studio portrait day, then these photography session are 20 minutes.

Your portraits are carefully edited after the session to create the beautiful fine art finish. They will be ready within 4 days, where you will be able to view them in your own online gallery and choose your favourite portrait photographs.

Because I’m fabulous, darling. Wah ha ha!

I’ve been photographing children for over 23 years, so I know how to handle toddlers, shy little ones, and the full-on overexcited chaos. I make it relaxed, fun, and genuinely enjoyable for everyone — kids and parents alike.

The result? Portraits that actually look like your children, full of personality, with a session you’ll actually enjoy. That’s what makes me different.
